Ceramic implants in Budapest
A zirconia implant is a ceramic, metal-free alternative to a titanium implant. With a ceramic abutment and crown on top, nothing in the tooth is metal. It suits people with metal allergies and those who worry about a grey tint at the gum. The trade-off: titanium has decades of records, ceramic is newer and costs more.
Most dental implants are titanium screws. A zirconia implant replaces that screw with zirconium-oxide ceramic, so the root, the connecting part and the visible tooth can all be metal-free. This page explains who the ceramic option is really for, what it cannot yet promise, and what a full ceramic case looks like in Budapest.
A zirconia implant, also called a zirconium-oxide or ceramic implant, is an artificial tooth root made from ceramic instead of metal. It goes into the jawbone in the same place a titanium implant would.
Do not confuse it with the far more common “zirconia crown on an implant”. In that case only the visible tooth is ceramic and it sits on a metal screw. In a full ceramic restoration the whole system is ceramic: implant, abutment and crown. There is no titanium screw, no metal abutment and no greyish shadow under the gumline.

Titanium works well for most people, so ceramic is a choice for specific reasons rather than a default upgrade. On the site’s own pages, these are the patients it is meant for:
Zirconia is 100% metal-free. For someone who reacts to metals, that is the main reason to choose it over titanium.
White ceramic blends with the gum. A titanium implant can leave a grey tint showing through, which matters most where people look when you smile.
Straumann describes its ivory-coloured ceramic implant as a metal-free solution for thin or receded gums and for higher aesthetic needs.
If none of these apply to you, a titanium implant with a zirconia crown on top often gives a very similar look at a lower price. The dentist can tell you which way your case leans once they see your X-ray.
Titanium remains the most widely used implant material because of its strength and the way it integrates with bone. Zirconia offers similar strength and biocompatibility and is tooth-coloured. The difference that matters most is the track record.

Only titanium implants have records going back decades showing that they last and can replace a missing tooth for a lifetime. Ceramic implants have not been around long enough to show the same. If long-term certainty is your first priority and you have no metal sensitivity, titanium is the safer bet.
The guarantee is another important point to check. The clinic offers a lifetime guarantee on both titanium and zirconia implants (covering the implant product itself). The exact guarantee conditions are specified in the treatment quotation you receive.
Some factors affect any implant, ceramic or titanium. Smoking significantly increases the risk of failure because it reduces blood flow and slows healing, and uncontrolled diabetes can cause complications. Mention these when you ask for a quote.
At the time the original article was written, the Straumann PURE Ceramic Implant System, a fully metal-free option, was listed on the Straumann website but not yet in global production. Straumann’s ceramic implants are currently not available at the Budapest clinic.
For metal-free work the clinic uses Neodent, part of the Straumann Group and widely available today. The abutment and crown are made from ceramic too, so the finished tooth is metal-free. Diagnostics in Budapest use 3D CBCT and CAD/CAM systems. Implant treatment is normally spread over two visits, with the healing time at home in between. More on that period: dental implant healing stages.
Many people searching for zirconia implant before and after photos are really looking at zirconia crowns. The difference is below the gum. With a crown on a titanium screw, the tooth is white but the root is metal. With a full ceramic implant, the root is white as well, so there is no grey shadow to show through a thin gum later.

A full ceramic zirconia implant is the premium option, so it costs more than a standard titanium implant in Budapest. It still costs significantly less than in the US or UK. Even with travel expenses, patients typically save 40–70% compared with home-country prices.
There is no fixed price list for ceramic cases on this site, because the price depends on your scans. Your quote is prepared from your X-ray before you travel.
Zirconia is biocompatible and bonds well with bone. What it lacks is titanium’s decades of records, so the dentist weighs that against your reasons for going metal-free.
Both titanium and zirconia implants come with a lifetime guarantee covering the implant itself. The applicable guarantee terms will be clearly specified in your written treatment quotation. Regular annual check-ups are recommended to maintain the long-term health and stability of your implants.
You leave with an implant passport recording the type, size and position of the implant, so any dentist at home can see exactly what was placed.

So delighted of my veneers result!
I was planning to get veneers for a number of years and finally decided to get one this year. Of course, Turkey was one of the options but I chose Budapest as it’s closer to Ireland. I read great reviews for Budapest Top Dental so I did give it a go and asked for a quote. They offered me a promo package which includes accomodation and transportation (to and from) the airport so I grabbed it.
My experience since I arrived in the airport was great. Taxi was on time to pick me up and bring me to the accomodation.
Dr Farago Laszlo was superb. He was very professional and really knows what he was doing. My procedure went all perfectly fine, didnt have any issue and all I asked and wished for in terms of new smile were granted so I’m very pleased with the result!! So thank you Dr Laszlo!
Last but not the least, Janus did a fantastic job in all the coordination of my trip. He’s very helpful and responsive all the time for any queries I may have. The accommodation and taxi company hired were all great.
