What are dental implant parts?
An implant is a complex dental prosthetic technique used to replace lost teeth. Unlike traditional dentures or bridges, dental implants are designed to mimic the natural structure and function of teeth. The parts of dental implants include three main components:
1. Fixed implant screw:
A dental implant post is a small screw-like component made of a biocompatible material, usually titanium. This device is surgically inserted into the jawbone and acts as the artificial tooth root. Over time, the bone will fuse with the implant through a process called osseointegration, creating a strong foundation for the replacement tooth. Recommended dental implant posts also varies based on the jaw bone qulaity and the treatment need of the patient. Traditional dental implant is made of bio frendly titanium.
2. Abutment:
Abutment, called as pillars as well is a connecting piece that attaches to the implant fixture after bone integration is complete. It protrudes above the gum line and provides a platform for attaching crowns, bridges, or dentures to the implant posts. The abutment, can be screwed onto the implant screw, is a small connector item between the post and the crown/bridge.
3. Crown:
A denture is the visible part of an implant, designed to look like a natural tooth. It is customized to match the patient’s existing tooth colour, size and shape, ensuring a seamless and natural look. It may be a single dental implant crown, bridge or complete bridge or denture depending on the number of implant posts inserted. The crowns or bridge is attached to the abutment.

When are dental implants used?
Dental implants are used in many situations, including:
Single tooth replacement:
When a person loses a tooth due to trauma or decay, an implant can replace it without affecting adjacent teeth. Wisdom teeth are not necessary to be replaced.
Replace multiple teeth:
Dental implants can replace multiple adjacent missing teeth while preserving the integrity of surrounding teeth. If some teeth are lost in a row, then they can be replaced with an implant supported bridge. This solution is generally used up to 4 missing teeth in a row.
