Some oral hygienic advice
Brushing teeth the right way
Two times when you should always clean your teeth:
In the morning after breakfast.
Before going to bed, after last meal.
- Before tooth brushing, you should definitely wash your tooth brush.
- Apply small amount of toothpaste.
- A tooth brush’s head should form 45 angle degree to the gum’s line. Do short circular motions from the gum towards incisal edge. Brush each tooth carefully.
- Brush each tooth’s internal surface with circular motions. Brush should be put athwart to incisal edges.
- Brush teeth’ external surfaces with circular motions.
- Brush upper and lower tricuspids’ chewing surfaces using back and forth motions.
- Finish brushing with a gums’ massage – do circular motions, reaching teeth and gums, keep your mouth closed.
- Brush tongue. Use tongue scraper. Start tongue brushing from back part and move towards front surface little by little.
- Wash brush and put it in a glass with bristle up.
Do not also forget about changing your tooth brush regularly.
While exploitation, tooth brush wears: bristles lose shape, become soiled with microorganisms, shorten and, as a result, start gums traumatizing.
A tooth brush’s age depends on many factors: how often one brushes his teeth, how long, intensity of push, tooth paste’s abrasive power. You need to brush teeth with a tooth brush twice a day, during 3 minutes, push power is 50-70 g.
Change tooth brush three times a month.
The first signal for you to change your tooth brush is loss of its original appearance.
Nowadays they produce tooth brushes with wear indicator – bunches of bristle, painted in food colors. In this case discoloration of painted bristles indicates wear and necessity of replacement. If you suffered from flu, ARD or quinsy, it is advisably to change your tooth brush.
Don’t forget the regular check-ups and dental hygienic treatments twice a year!
We would like you to feel more secure during the treatment that is aided by the thorough knowledge of schedule, duration, side effects and complications of treatment.
Dental Hygienic Intervention
The treatment is carried out by qualified dental hygienist. The applied hand and machine tools do not cause harm to the dental tissue. Their utilization is safe at applying adequate expertise. It is totally painless and its length is between 30-45 mins.
Indication:
To clear off the tarnish located on surface of teeth and dental tartar above and beneath gum.
Frequency of intervention:
- Dental treatment may not be launched without previous dental hygienic intervention.
- Scaling and polishing of dental surface shall be performed once every half a year with good oral hygiene, and every three months in case of significant dental tartar formulation.
- In the first therapeutic section of disease of peridontium, the treatment is indicated on a monthly basis parallel with parodontological treatment.
- During the orthodontological treatments, dental hygienic interventions shall be performed approximately in every three months.
Course of treatment:
A so-called sandblasting appliance is used for clearing off tarnish. During the operation, the appliance delivers fine-grained polishing particles mixed with water to the dental surface, which clear off the undesired tarnish due to friction. Polishing may be carried out by utilizing polish paste or small-headed polishing brush. The appositional and petrified fur is cleared off by ultrasound mechanic appliance in case of dental tartar. The mechanic clearing off of tartar underneath gum is complemented by hand operated appliances. Subsequent to complete clearing off of tartar, treatment is finished by polishing of dental surface with menthol or neutral flavoured polishing paste.
Duration of treatment:
Treatment (polishing or scaling) requires maximum one hour but in most cases it is shorter. It is rather frequent to have complementary treatment in case of significant amount of dental tartar or tartar beneath gum. The inflamed and swollen gum often impedes clearing off of tartar.
Upon healing of gum, hardly reachable locations become accessible, therefore the treatment may be finished.
Complaints during treatment:
Complaints, sensitivity and pain significantly depend on the individual threshold of pain, tolerance, tuning to treatment and actual psychic state of patient. Scaling is a little uncommon, sometimes uneasy treatment that causes no pain.
Due to the vibrancy of the appliance, one may encounter, depending on the location of appliance, prickly and vibrant feeling in jaw or in facial cranium that is a natural accompanist of treatment and ceases at turning off the appliance.
- The appliance may touch gum during operation that sometimes may cause uneasy feeling or slight pain.
- Slight sensitivity of lower frontal teeth may occur that is of temporary nature.
- In case of gum recess, teeth are more sensitive to touching, cold air or water due to exposed tooth neck. Dental tartar removal in the region may cause slight or strong striking pain.
- In case freshly made filling, inlay or bridge, inflamed, however, symptom-free teeth are more sensitive, therefore temporary pain may occur during dental hygienic intervention that ceases immediately after treatment or a few hours later. In case of significant pain, local anesthesia in spray form may be claimed to relieve gingival pains and tooth sensitivity.
- During treatment, bleeding from gum may occur that is produced upon touching of inflamed tissues. The more the gum was inflamed or the more dental tartar was removed the more it is likely that gum slightly or significantly bleeds.
- Vaporised water from appliance may be sprayed on face that causes inconvenient cold feeling. It is removed during the course of treatment.
Complications:
- Inorganic material from dental enamel under fur or dental tartar may dissolve that cause weakening of dental enamel. Vulnerable dental surface may rupture in particular cases due to vibrating effect of appliance that requires reconstruction of damaged surface.
- Weakened fillings with cavities and old shaking crowns may fall off due to vibrating moving of scaler. Temporary filling is placed until final treatment of tooth, and the fallen off crown may be replaced to tooth temporarily.
Incorporation:
- Teeth may be felt thinner for the tongue subsequent to scaling. Teeth received their natural anatomical shape and tongue shall get used to it within 2-3 days.
- Gap in the region of lower front teeth may remain subsequent to scaling. This gap may be due to significant amount of dental tartar that suppressed gum or gum loss resulting from gum recess of periodontal disease. Gap formulated in this way may be filled with dental tartar due to improper dental care. One may feel the gap when performing scaling and saliva may flow though it. In the beginning, it might be uncommon, however, one gets used to it after a few days or weeks.
- Subsequent to treatment, gum may be sensitive and teeth may be cold-warm sensitive for a few days.
Home care
Thorough and careful tooth care and cleaning shall be carried out daily pursuant to advice of dental hygienist (tooth brush, dental floss, inter-dentally brush, mouth shower, mouth rinse, application of sensitivity decreasing gels etc.)
Guide on Home Care after Parodonthological Surgeries
Parodonthological surgeries are suggested for patients having bone socket deeper that 3-4 mm or having osteolysis. In case the reason of disease cannot be eliminated in conservative way, the so-called open and closed curette surgeries shall be performed. Surgeries may be combined further with osteo-substitution or placement of membrane barrier.
Preparations for surgery
Intervention may be performed in sterile and plaque-free environment that is reached by one or more professional dental hygienic treatment.
Oedematous inflammation of pocket wall shall be eliminated by conservative sub gingival curette (surgery exploration of inflamed region may cause complications).
Antibiotics may be used during surgery and healing term depending on the general state of health and risk diseases of patient.
Steps of surgery
- Intervention is performed in dental office under total anesthesia and sterile conditions that normally lasts for 1-1,5 hours.
- Final treatment of surgery region is carried out by using seals, however, in certain occasions, parodontal pack may placed on mucosa of soft tissue (this may be removed by patient easily 6-12 hours subsequent to treatment).
- Antibiotics or painkiller may be prescribed.
- No pain is felt during surgery, since it is carried out under anethesia, however, ultra sound and hand curette may be perceived as raspy irritation due to cleaning of surfaces of bones.
- The treated teeth may be provided with relieving fixing or temporary bridge with adequate relieve in case of dental prosthesis.
Home care
Surgery region shall be held plaque-free. In the first 4-5 days, you should use chloral-hexidine and corsodilic rinse and perform tooth brush in regions not involved.
The frequent freezing of surgery region with ice wrapped in towel performed from face skin direction provides relieving effect.
Patient shall appear on follow-up checks in every other day and participate in laser and Betadines treatment to facilitate healing and prevent wound sepsis.
The removal of seals is required on 7th-10th day. The exact time is determined by type of surgery and inserted materials.
Subsequent to this, one shall carefully clean the region with tooth brush or inter-dental brush after each meal but at least three times a day.
You shall avoid of smoking during the term of parodontal surgery and treatments!
Information on eating
- You shall avoid the consumption of acidy meals and meals of irritating effect.
- You shall avoid the consumption of dairy products in the first few days.
Expected results
- During parododontal treatment, which may consist of conservative or surgery and maintain phases, the movability of teeth is decreased and occlusianal force increases.
- Sensitivity and pain during chewing decreases or ceases.
- Life-span of teeth increases.
Symptoms of gum shrinkage
Seventy percent of all people are affected by gum disease that has sooner or later serious consequences causing degenerative disease. Untreated gum disease may lead to loosening of teeth. Gum recession is not associated with any pain and developes gradually, so if one knows about the symptoms, the problem can be detected at early stages and one can in time turn to a dentist to get it treated. In addition to the physical examinations, the extent of gingival shrinkage is illustrated on panoramic x-rays, as in this case, the bone surrounding the tooth root retracts and only the shorter part of the root remains in the bone.
How to prevent gum disease?
In the prevention of gum disease, the strong and resilient immune system plays an important role as in the case of a healthy organism gum recession arises much harder. Various clinical tests have also shown that many diseases are associated with gum disease therefore when you can preserve the effectiveness of the immune system you can do a lot for healthy gums. An untreated infection in the organism might provide possibility for gum disease. It is also conversely true that if you notice the first signs of gum disease, you should definitely consult a doctor so that you can prevent future problems. In the prevention besides those factors mentioned above a proper diet also plays an important role because the quality of food determines the energy level and the resilience of our organism. A good and healthy lifestyle and appropriate nutrition secure a good basis for the immune system, which thereby is capable of self-healing and regeneration. In the interest of long-term results smoking and excessive alcohol consumption should be eliminated and for having a strong immune system doing appropriate exercises, vitamin and mineral intake is needed plus you should avoid stress. Gum shrinkage is unfortunately a common disease and many patients contact a dentist too late, so by seeing a dentist earlier you could fix the problem with less effort. Many do not deal with prevention, although gum disease is preventable through proper oral care, appropriate nutrition and the general maintenance of the organism. The first and one of the most important tasks is to maintain the appropriate oral hygiene. It is worth learning the correct dental care practice and the principal devices should not be omitted. In addition to the toothbrush there are numerous staff which can be extremely helpful in cleaning the teeth and gums. There are brushes for cleaning in between teeth, and the dental floss that everyone knows, but is used by only a few. The surfaces of a tooth that can not be reached by a toothbrush mean an extra risk: the plaque there can not only cause tooth decay, but also endangers the gum and the tooth bed, for this reason must be removed.
